PDF File Size (Step 2)

The size of a PDF file should not exceed 35 megabytes (MB). The number of pages that make up 35 megabytes is dependent on a variety of factors (the program used to create the file, the color settings, scanner settings, etc.) It is recommended you use the number of megabytes rather than the number of pages to determine file size.

Scanning Prerequisites

The following settings are recommended when scanning documents:

  • Color Mode or Output - The recommended color output is grayscale or black and white. Color scanning is not necessary in the court and increases the file size.
  • Fonts - Use Basic Font Sets and not embedded fonts.
  • Output Resolution (DPI) - The recommended scanning resolution is 300 dots per inch (DPI). Avoid higher resolutions as this will increase file size.
  • Page Size - Ensure the document being scanned is a standard letter format (8.5 x 11 inches) to avoid any errors in the uploading and/or noticing of the PDF document.
